Project

Organic Chemistry Division (III)

COMMISSION ON NOMENCLATURE OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY (III.1)

Number: 310/27/98

Title: Seniority of Detachable Prefixes Based on CIP Priorities

Coordinator(s): J. L. Wisniewski

Completion Date: 2001 - project terminated

Objective:
Use of the priority system devised by Cahn, Ingold and Prelog (CIP priorities) to replace the alphabetical order in the citation of detachable prefixes in IUPAC names.

Progress:
Dr. Wisniewski implemented Ranking Rules "a", "b", "c" and "h" of the Stereochemistry Document (dated August 1998) and run it over a sample of more then 12,000 structures from the Beilstein Database. The success rate was 93,8%. The other ranking rules still need to be implemented and the feasiblity of thr whole ordering practice based on CIP checked for more complex cases.

Last update: 28 September 1999

Project terminated 31 dec 2001
