* Physical Organic
Chemistry
Although physical organic chemistry began in the 1930s and at the beginning
was concerned mostly with the mechanisms and kinetics of organic reactions
and their dependence on structural and medium effects, a great extension
of the field toward bioorganic, organic, organometallic, theoretical,
catalytic, supramolecular, and photochemistry has been observed for
decades now. Representative topics for modern physical organic chemistry
include: reaction mechanisms; reactive intermediates; bioprocesses;
novel structures; reactivity relationships; solvent, substituent, isotope,
and solid-state effects; long-lived charges; sextet or open-shell species;
magnetic, nonlinear optical, and conducting molecules; and molecular
recognition. Contributions from all of these fields are include in this
PAC issue.

* Thermodynamics, Solubility and Environmental Issues
Environmental problems are becoming an important aspect of our lives
as industries grow apace with populations throughout the world. Thermodynamics,
Solubility and Environmental Issues highlights some of the problems
and shows how chemistry can help to reduce these them. The unifying
theme is Solubility – the most basic and important of thermodynamic
properties. This informative book looks at the importance and applications
of solubility and thermodynamics, in understanding and in reducing chemical
pollution in the environment.

* Solubility Phenomena
Interest in solubility phenomena and related equilibrium processes brings
together chemists from a wide range of fields. This variety was well
reflected at the 12th International Symposia on Solubility Phenomena
and Related Equilibrium Processes (ISSP) where the plenary and invited
lectures included: gas solubilities and gas hydrates; solubility limitations
to lithium-air batteries; studies of solubilities at high pressures;
solubility considerations in radioactive waste management; kinetics
of precipitation and dissolution in hydrothermal systems; crystal growth
and dissolution processes; and preferential crystallization. The articles
presented in this PAC issue illustrate this breadth of subject matter
and highlight the combination of fundamental and applied research that

* Natural Products and Biodiversity
A recent special issue of PAC includes reviews and research papers based
on lectures presented at the 25th International Symposium on Chemistry
of Natural Products (ISCNP-25) and 5th International Conference on Biodiversity
(ICOB-5), held jointly in Kyoto, Japan, 23-28 July 2006, on the theme
of natural products.
It is noteworthy that the Kyoto meeting represents the third occasion
that the series has been hosted in Japan, the home of some quite extraordinary
manifestations of natural products and biodiversity, as well as some
of the outstanding practitioners of the subject. The program of ISCNP-25/ICOB-5
rightly captures some of this local character, but is also a fully representative
expression of the international participation and appeal that traditionally
characterizes the series. This issue includes 27 topical papers based
upon program presentations. The collection aspires to offer an enduring
archival record of a subject that continues to reinvent itself, and
to astound and challenge its practitioners with the apparently boundless
molecular riches of the biosphere.

* Chemistry for Water - CHEMRAWN XV Perspectives
The mounting problems of water management around the world, exacerbated
by an ever growing population and equally increasing vital needs, coupled
with a finite natural resource, demand concrete, collective and strategic
actions which chemists are ready to undertake, over and above meetings
and debates. Using various examples, the CHEMRAWN XV Conference shed
