45th Prague Meeting on Macromolecules 'Structure and Dynamics of Self-Organized Macromolecular Systems',
9-13 July 2006, Prague, Czech Republic.

The meeting Structure and Dynamics of Self-organized Macromolecular Systems, organized and chaired by Petr Stepanek, was held at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, in Prague from 9-13 July 2006. More than 120 scientists from 22 countries participated in the meeting.

The goal of the meeting was to bring together scientists in the fields of synthetic polymers and biopolymers, who are interested in self-organization. The bottom-up approach, which consists of exploiting various forms of self-ordering of natural building blocks, is becoming important in many technological areas. Due to a large variety of building blocks, chemical reactions, and architectures, polymers represent a particularly rich field where self-organization can be exploited to obtain materials with new properties.

The scientific program consisted of 10 plenary lectures and 24 short special lectures as well as two poster sessions. The following scientists gave plenary lectures:

Selected contributions to the meeting will be published in a special volume of the International Journal of Polymer Analysis and Characterization in early 2007.

Petr Stepanek <[email protected]> served as chairman of the Program Committee for the meeting. He currently is a professor at the Institute of Macromlecular Chemistry in Prague.
